Messaging- the new traveller medium

The conventional SMS / text messaging along with other Internet-based mobile chat apps has become the default medium of communication around the world. Mobile messaging has attained a remarkable pace of growth which has great influence on our daily lives including travel. As per the latest Phocuswright report, Chat Shop, Buy: messaging as the new traveller medium, analyses the use of text and messaging apps among U.S. travellers, and the impact they will have on travel planning, booking and experiencing.

According to the report travellers who use mobile messaging has increased substantially. Younger travellers – millennials aged 18-34, but also 35-44 year olds – are driving the use of mobile messaging.

Trip planners via mobile devices enable travellers to share their travel experience other than mobile messaging services and platforms.

Other than this messaging also give an evident prospect for travel brands by offering on demand traveller support. A lot of startups in Hotel sector have also enabled guest relation via messaging.

In addition, mobile messaging represents an obvious opportunity for travel brands to offer on-demand traveller support. In the hospitality segment, a slew of startups have stepped in to facilitate guest relations via instant messaging.

According to the report there is a significant increase than previous years that nearly half of U.S. travellers used text messaging and more than three in 10 used chat apps to share their travel experiences in 2015.
