An opinion research survey by The Travel Technology Association reveals the current trend among American travellers. The survey shows the increasing dependency on innovative web and app-based platforms developed by Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) for effective search, compare and booking of travel options across hotel brands. Online Travel Companies are in a way saving their customers valuable time and effort in making an informed booking decision rather than visiting dozens or even hundreds of websites.
Following are the data found by the nationwide survey conducted online from September 25 to 27, 2015 among a cross section of 2,015 adults age 18 and over.
- 55% U.S. travelers prefer online travel companies for searching hotels.
- Almost 7 in 10 Americans choose online travel company platforms as convenient and safe.
- More Americans prefer booking hotel reservations through online travel company apps and sites (43%) compared to booking direct on hotel platforms (40%).
- 55% of U.S. travelers judge the innovation developed by online travel companies is vital to the travel economy.
Third-party online booking sites has their own success story to disclose as they occupy an important role in the travel ecosystem.
In 2014 Expedia assisted travelers book over 146 million hotel room nights.
- Each month over 27 million unique visitors browse Orbitz Worldwide sites.
- Priceline.com partners with over 370,000 hotels in 170 countries.
