One would think that with the way the Indian Rupee is depreciating against the dollar many of us would be holding on to their travel plans and some may even be cancelling it. However as per the data released after the survey conducted by a leading OTA this is not so. Surprisingly 63% of Indians are still positive about their travel plans and say they will go ahead on holidays in the coming months.
Many of the respondents felt that the impending arrival of Air Asia will have an effect on the Air tariffs and this will help them positively in bringing down the overall travel costs.
Interestingly South East Asia still continues to be the travel destination of choice for Indians, followed by Europe, US and UK.
42% respondents said they liked to travel with their families and the next preference is with their partners and then with friends. There is an increasing trend seen in people willing to go in for 3- 4 star hotels and this should be reason to cheer for hoteliers.
The role of OTAs are also coming to prominence here as most travelers rely on Online Travel sites to get relevant information about their holidays and to get the best fares for their Flights and Hotels.
Booking via smart phones is also picking up with close to 15% bookings happening via this route.
